Police have charged a 24-year-old Hilo man in connection with an ambulance stolen Thursday afternoon from the emergency room entrance to Hilo Medical Center.

Police have charged a 24-year-old Hilo man in connection with an ambulance stolen Thursday afternoon from the emergency room entrance to Hilo Medical Center.

Maksim Stasyuk is scheduled to make his initial appearance Monday in Hilo District Court. His bail was set at $36,000.

Stasyuk is charged with first-degree theft and two counts of criminal property damage for allegedly taking the privately owned ambulance on a crosstown drive. He was arrested after allegedly crashing through a gate near the Hilo landfill on Leilani Streeet.
